Trypetisoma eutretoides Arnaud - Trypetisoma eutretoides - female

Trypetisoma eutretoides Arnaud - Trypetisoma eutretoides - Female
Middlemarch Road on west side of Dragoon Mountains, elevation 1695 meters, Cochise County, Arizona, USA
July 1, 2018
Size: 3 mm
Collected sweeping low herbaceous vegetation in a dry wash. I'm not sure this species has been collected since Arnaud described it, and it has apparently not previously been collected in Arizona, only California.

"It has apparently not previously been collected in Arizona"?
but I collected it one day before you did... :-)
My main problem with this little fly is that I couldn't figure out the family.

Another one
Shortly after yours, another was posted from Arizona.

What a coincidence!
I collected two of these little guys. There were plenty more at the bottom of a ravine. A sandy spot in the ground of approximately two square meters was teeming with all sorts of insects. I bet the dry weather coupled with the moist soil at that location attracted a myriad of critters.
