wormlion - Vermileo opacus

wormlion - Vermileo opacus
Chalk Bluff Road, near Pleasant Valley Owens River Campground, Inyo County, California, USA
April 15, 2018
Size: 5mm
Pupa of a Vermileo collected as a larva on August 8, 2017. The larva ate regularly (ants and occasionally other insects) during August, September, and October. It ate next on December 15, then never ate again. I don't know what day it pupated since it happened under the soil. I do know it was a pupa on April 5, 2018, because I dug it up that day to check on it. On April 15, 2018, the pupa came up out of the soil (this photo). The adult emerged the following day.
