Typocerus zebra??
I'm definitely not a beetle expert but these are longhorn beetles in the Cerambycidae. T. zebra was the best match I could see but it's supposed to be mostly in coastal areas. Not sure if that quite applies to Ulster County or not. Genus Typocerus is probably correct anyway but there are a lot of species.

Long horn beetle
Thank you. We are maybe 3-4 hours drive from the coast. Will try to research this more. I found another on a viburnum this morning.
