That is one possibility
Unfortunately, to tell them apart, you need a straight dorsal photo so you can see the apices of the elytra.

Thanks again. This is my first year trying to spend more time with the insects in our yard. Bugguide is a great resource and will help me learn what to look for when trying to id them.

For beetles...
The best first image is a straight-on dorsal view. Side views can be helpful and are a good idea, but that dorsal shot is often key.
