Trying to identify red spider found in basement, Montreal

Hi all,

In the past two months I have caught two odd spiders in my basement, in Montreal, Canada.

They are crimson / blood red (especially the legs -- Thorax is more mixed red/brown), about the size of a dime to a quarter, and have a more elongated torso (rather than round).

Any idea what this might be given the geography? I've never seen this type before.

Why would it be in my finished basement in Montreal?

 
My guess would be....
either it's a male searching for a mate.... or you have isopods (sow bugs) in your basement that it's feeding on.
