Very Large Beetle that Just bit Me (I deserved it) - Prionus laticollis

Very Large Beetle that Just bit Me (I deserved it) - Prionus laticollis
Tracys Landing, Anne Arundel County, Maryland, USA
July 13, 2018
Size: perhaps 4cm or more
Near as I can tell this may be a Pasimachus sp. Perhaps P. marginatus, perhaps P. depressus. Perhaps it is something else entirely.

It is one of the largest beetles I have ever seen. It was crawling along the beach detritus. I captured it and it is not very happy about that. It bit/pinched me and drew blood when I put it in a pot with white paper on the bottom for this photo. I would have done the same in an attempt to escape. I will release the creature where I found it tonight, with or without identification. Perhaps I will try to measure it and take a few more photos first if I can avoid being bitten/pinched again.
