Bar-Winged Skimmer - Libellula incesta
Buchanan, Berrien County, Michigan, USA

Size: 84 mm span, 54 mm long
After comparing many photos, I can conclude that this is a bar-winged skimmer. This will add a data point far outside of its recorded Bug-Guide range. It was caught on a sunny day when it flew out of some tall grass as I walked by. It is slate purple with orange markings on its abdomen and sky blue metallic markings on the sides and top of its thorax. This is a side shot.
