Size: 3-5 mm
small brightly coloured fly in numbers on common milkweed. Wondering if it will harm Monarch Butterfly eggs and larvae

Condylostylus
A female in the Condylostylus caudatus species group. I don't know if these eat caterpillars.

longlegged fly (Dolichopodidae)
These are very common, abundant flies, found on various types of vegetation.

Larvae eat either small insects or plant matter, but I would think they would not attack monarch eggs/larvae, especially with the toxins the monarch contains.
