Gueneria similaria - female

Gueneria similaria - Female
Pine Brook, Isanti County, Minnesota, USA
June 8, 2018
Size: WS 21mm
Poor photos of a poor specimen. Laid eggs on lady fern in captivity. Doesn't show much of the underside hindwing markings mentioned by Wagner, et al., (Geometroid Caterpillars) as "often" being present. Caterpillars found morning of June 19. Fed mostly lady fern but proceeded to die off. Several other ferns offered but decline continued (despite continued feeding). At one point supplied aspen, just in case this was Cabera erythemaria. This was not eaten. Last survivor molted to presumed final instar by July 18. Appeared to feed somewhat on exuviae but never on ferns. Dead July 20. Not an entirely satisfying rearing, but comparing presumed final instar image to that on page 118 of Geometroid Caterpillars, I believe the ID is sound.
