Wood wasp - Urocerus flavicornis - female

Wood wasp - Urocerus flavicornis - Female
Chitina, Valdez-Cordova County, Alaska, USA
Size: about 1.5 inches
landed on leg of river guide, midday long enough for photos. Appears to be Urocerus flavicornis, but unclear about species name, as other notation suggests Urocerus gigas flavicornis. Unclear what the significance of "gigas" in one naming form. Hoping for confirmation. thanks!

Moved from ID Request.

Evidently it was once considered a subspecies of U. gigas, but is now considered a species in its own right.
