2 specimens?
Are the pictures of two specimens in the same swarm? Picture 1 seems to be different from the other two. Also, if you still have the specimens on hand a facial shot of the female alate (first image) would be nice, to check for the excised clypeus.

I believe barbatus is the only species in the area with red males, so I feel reasonably confident about moving it there. Pogonomyrmex apache has black colored males. Relinked the male to images 4 and 5.

Pogonomyrmex in mating swarm, Cochise Co. AZ
I believe from the projection (but not spines) on the epinotum that this is probably
Pogonomyrmex apache
but anyone who can confirm or suggest different species id, would be greatly appreciated.
