Green Fly on Milkweed - hundreds
Saranac Lake, Franklin County, New York, USA

Size: @ .25 inches
There are hundreds of these flies on the leaves of the Milkweed next to our house. Monarch butterflies are using the Milkweed and have scores of caterpillars feeding there. Are the flies harmful in any way? To the Morarchs?

Green Fly
They are all over the Milkweed leaves - no dead or rotting animal anywhere . ????

Very common
These are common flies even where there is no obvious food sourcel. I think larvae eat bacteria so the rotting stuff may not need to be flesh.

Blow fly
Probably Lucilia sericata. As far as I know these should not interact with Monarchs. They are associated with dead and rotting things.
