Papilio polyxenes - male

Papilio polyxenes - Male
Tierra Grande, Valencia County, New Mexico, USA
June 4, 2006
This yellow form is rare here, and looks just like P. polyxenes coloro. In spring 2006 I saw this one plus two others in April, but in 2007, though the species was very common, I saw none.

Moved
Moved from Black Swallowtail.

It is very tempting to put this with ssp. coloro,
but the much more common black form that this flies with are typical ssp. asterius, so it seems it has to be called a rare yellow form of that subspecies.
