"Dryope" Sylvan Hairstreak - Satyrium sylvinum
De Chambeau South Pond, Mono County, California, USA
July 25, 2018
Size: 2/3 inch
While visiting the De Chambeau Ponds, I was on the north side of the pond that is most south of the 3 ponds when I noticed a small butterfly within the leaves of a willow tree. I took a few images of this butterfly, and after searching through Jeffrey Glassberg's Butterflies Through Binoculars of the West, I determined that this image fits the "Dryope" subspecies of the Slyvan Hairstreak complex mainly because of the lack of a tail which apparently is in populations of California and Nevada.

I'm not an expert, being in E. Canada, but your identification looks good.
