looks to me like some sort of angle-winged katydid.

I tried running the online key and kept getting Round-headed Katydids (Amblycorypha), but I'm not sure I was doing it right (beginner). I got stuck before species.

Correct.
Yes, this is a female roundheaded katydid in the genus Amblycorypha (enormous ovipositor immediately sets her apart from Microcentrum). The species are essentially impossible to separate now because several new species have been named based on differences in the 'songs' of the males.
