Size: 6 - 8 mm
This Fly is very similar to a White-faced Ringed Fly but the abdomen of this one was much more bulbous and almost black. I saw no rings and I didn't even notice the reddish colors on it's abdomen until I looked at the image on the PC. This one is also noticeably larger and makes a very loud buzzing noise as it flies.

Tachinidae: probably Archytas sp.

Looks and sounds familiar.
It's a tachinid, and I had the same experience with not seeing the red on the abdomen until the image was in the computer. I've posted maybe two of these and had no luck getting an ID. Hope you do better, and I'll be watching! (No, that's not a threat. LOL!)

Thanks
Thank you Ron. No threat taken, lol. Truth be told, I need watching when it comes to identifying bugs and such. I definitely have been wrong more than once.

Oh, another wrong-doer.
I have been wrong more than once this hour! (It's the time frame that counts. LOL.)
