Is this a Yellow-Jacket Mimic - Spilomyia longicornis? If so, it will be a first for Illinois.

I agree with Spilomyia longicornis
but am not an expert and got into a rather nasty argument on one of these once. Yours certainly matches the photos we have there.

Hopefully, Martin will weigh in.
