Sphaerophoria Species - Sphaerophoria contigua - male

Sphaerophoria Species - Sphaerophoria contigua - Male
Norris City, White County, Illinois, USA
November 16, 2007
Size: Approx. 9/16 in. long
I'm assuming this is some kind of fly. But, it's unlike any other type I've ever seen. It seems to have light-colored patches in front of the eyes and just behind them, too.

I noticed there were none of these posted for November in my state, so now that oversight is corrected.

Sphaerophoria male
It is, and impossible to identify further without specimen, because one has to llok at the genitalia! :-))
Greetings,

Platycheirus possibly?
Some of the Platycheirus in the bug guide have those light patches both fore and aft of the eyes.

Thanks, I saw some like you described in that genus. That's probably it.
