This morning, I saw this bee on the rim of one of my tomato cages. The bee was depositing a white substance along the rim (eggs? nestbuilding? I don't know), and I was wondering if anyone could tell me what sort of bee this is and what she's doing. Thank you! My curiosity is killing me!

This genus
of robber flies does egglay with this white foamy exudate which hardens. The shape of the mass may actually be species specific though I had not noted this before.

Fly
This doesn't look like a bee to me. I believe it to be a robber fly, perhaps one of the bee killers but please wait for the opinion of a more knowledgeable member.
