Wasp mimicking fly - Physocephala sagittaria

Wasp mimicking fly - Physocephala sagittaria
Okatie/ Spring Island, Beaufort County, South Carolina, USA
August 8, 2018
Size: 5/8 inch

Moved
Moved from Conopinae.

Wing venation and basally swollen hind femora yield genus Physocephala.

Dark discal cell, red scutellum, yellowish-red oval on vertex...together with other characters and the South Carolina locale...all point clearly to Physocephala sagittaria.
