Pytho niger
Nashua, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA
April 24, 2005
Size: 12 mm
Three taken under loose bark on small prone conifer log.

IDed to genus by Dan Young (U. Wisconsin), Donald S. Chandler (U. New Hampshire), and Paul M. Choate (U. Florida). Since only three species are recorded for New Hampshire and this is the only black one, I figure it must be P. niger.

Some authorities include Pytho in Salpingidae.

Pythidae: Pytho niger
Jim: It is indeed Pytho niger. The lateral pronotal margins are evenly curved.
