Mystery Biter

Mystery Biter
Oak Harbor, Ottawa County, Ohio, USA
August 6, 2018
Sitting outdoors, my fiancé found 2 of these on him and experienced a burning sensation and a painful bite. The next day, I found one crawling on our picnic table. I also felt something sting me (sitting in the same spot), but did not see the bug. The area burned, itched severely, and swelled. The bug was big enough to visually see. However, it was extremely tiny! (A little smaller than a flea maybe)

Looks like a lacewing larva.
Looks like a lacewing larva. Something like this one: https://bugguide.net/node/view/1418757/bgimage

They are predators of aphids, and fantastic to have in the yard. Nature's pest control service. The internet is full of articles about how to attract them to your garden.

Getting bitten by one shouldn't do any lasting damage to a human. Probably means it was crawling on you and you accidentally squashed it a little when you moved because you didn't know it was there. No worries!
