Lake Huron Locust - Trimerotropis huroniana

Lake Huron Locust - Trimerotropis huroniana
Alcona County, Michigan, USA
August 14, 2018

Moved
Nice find, this species lives in a very restricted range in a specific dune habitat

Moved from Grasshoppers, Crickets, Katydids.

Thanks for the ID.
I would not have known to even look at this Genus. It appears that there are many color forms, and the note about "yellowish" hind tibiae would not have helped me. Is there another physical characteristic that stood out for you to have made such a quick ID?

a few things
The location was what immediately tipped me off - there aren't many other long, sandy-looking grasshoppers in that area of the great lakes. The low pronotum rules out things like Dissosteira and Spharagemon that might look similar. I had to check where in Michigan that county is, since T. maritima can look extremely similar but generally does not overlap ranges with T. huroniana. This location is way too far north for maritima.
