Predacious Diving Beetle - Dytiscus

Predacious Diving Beetle - Dytiscus
Elk Island National Park, Lamont, Alberta, Canada
August 19, 2018
Size: >35mm
While I was photographing this beetle a Vespula alascensis attacked it for about five seconds before giving up. Caught me totally by surprise. Managed about four frames of the attack. The park is laden with wasps. Not sure if this is normal or a banner year for Vespula. Acquaintance ID'd the wasp but doesn't know about beetles.
