Acronicta ovata? - Acronicta ovata

Acronicta ovata? - Acronicta ovata
Groton, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, USA
August 20, 2018
Feeding on white oak leaves. It looks similar to the one in Wagner's Owlet Caterpillar book. The adult Acronicta ovata are common at my lights.

Moved Tentatively
Moved from Dagger Moths.
John & Jane, I'll go with the food plant info and the common occurrence of the adult at my lights suggesting this is probably the correct ID.
There were at least 4 of these caterpillars on the same small tree.

I wish I understood this complex better
But if Wagner can't tell them apart, I don't feel too bad...
I think the food plant and what comes to you lights would be a good way to id it.
