Black, Orange and Lavender Moth found in Tahoe - Hemileuca eglanterina

Black, Orange and Lavender Moth found in Tahoe - Hemileuca eglanterina
KINGS BEACH, Placer County, California, USA
August 24, 2018
Size: Length- 1 3/4"
My preschool found a caterpillar on July 16th, 2018 and put it in a clear plastic tankcage with vegetation from where it was found. A few days later they couldn't find it and they thought it escaped. On August 23rd, 2018 the teacher went to clean out the cage and this moth was in it! We don't know how long since it emerged from it's buried cocoon.
