Curculionidae, from Sawtooth Sunflower - Rhodobaenus tredecimpunctatus

Curculionidae, from Sawtooth Sunflower - Rhodobaenus tredecimpunctatus
Dinesen Prairie, Shelby County, Iowa, USA
August 11, 2018

a first try, 2017

August 3, 2018: collected 5 stems of Sawtooth Sunflower, Helianthus grosseserratus. with stem boring holes
August 11, 2018: cut open 1 stem to nothing, cut open a 2nd stem to an adult (this one), cut open one stem to a pupa,

didn't cut open the other 2 stems
Inside the stem, beneath the hole is some shredded stuffing, beneath that would be the pupa.
August 18, 2018: on/before, an adult weevil
August 20, 2018: cut open a stem to a pupa, closed it back up
Later (missing date): opened up the stem (with the pupa) that was originally closed back up to find a dead adult beetle, also a hardened elongate cocoon (parasitoid?)

Batch rearing.
