August 3, 2018: collected 5 stems of Sawtooth Sunflower, Helianthus grosseserratus, with stem boring holes
August 11, 2018: cut open 1 stem to nothing, cut open a 2nd stem to an adult,

cut open one stem to a pupa (this one), didn't cut open the other 2 stems
Inside the stem, beneath the hole is some shredded stuffing, beneath that would be the pupa.
August 18, 2018: on/before, an adult weevil
August 20, 2018: cut open a stem to a pupa, closed the stem back up.Sometime later re-opened the stem to a dead adult weevil.
August 28, 2018: this fly emerged from one of the stems
