Schistocerca sp. - Schistocerca nitens - female

Schistocerca sp. - Schistocerca nitens - Female
National Butterfly Center, Hidalgo County, Texas, USA
September 2, 2018
Stumped on this Schistocerca. Doesn't seem to match any of the normal ones I see down here (nitens, americana, camerata). Perhaps a leucistic S. obscura? It didn't have the line on top of the thorax you'd typically see. It was larger than any of the S. camerata I've caught in Cameron Co. (next county to the east), but I assume there's variation there. Note the dark tibiae and shorter antennae.

S. nitens
ID confirmed by Hojun Song.

Odd one. It looks most like a very pale S. nitens to me (the pattern of spots near the tips of the wings looks right, and the pale markings on the lower part of the pronotum, plus the black speckles on the hind femora). But I've never seen one with this pale base color. If you see a male it'd be good to get some shots of the end of the abdomen.

Moved from Grasshoppers, Crickets, Katydids.

I'd wondered that too
I admit I've never looked at S. nitens that closely before because they're the only grey species down here. The markings on the end of the wings would make sense for that though. Wish I would have caught her, but she took off after I snapped a couple photos. I'll let the people at the Butterfly Center know to keep an eye out for any more and either catch them and send them to me or snap some photos, especially of the end of the abdomen.
