Ochthera - male

Ochthera - Male
North Bethesda, Montgomery County, Maryland, USA
August 27, 2018
Size: ~4.8mm by ruler
Keys to the “mantis complex” using Clausen’s key (1) including the dark fore tarsi but I can’t definitively take it beyond that because the male key depends on features of the genitalia. The shapes of sternite 5 and the surstylus resemble Clausen’s illustration of O. anatolikos (his figure 34) for whatever that’s worth. This fly’s slightly smaller than the range Clausen states for that species.

(I’m not sure what Causen means by “inner flexor setae” on the prothoracic femora. Basal vs. apical or lateral vs. medial?)
