Bumble or carpenter? - Xylocopa virginica - male

Bumble or carpenter? - Xylocopa virginica - Male
Brownsville, Fayette County, Pennsylvania, USA
September 3, 2018
Size: ~1.0 inch
Previously I'd felt confident IDing carpenter bees. I'd been taught that that most obvious feature is the abdomins will be black and shinby, whereas on a bumblebee it's fuzzy.

This has a fuzzy abdomen, but I'm not convinced it's a bumble bee. And I found similar images identified as carpenter bees, on this sight. Thanks!
