Digger - Neocurtilla hexadactyla - male

Digger - Neocurtilla hexadactyla - Male
Norfolk, Virginia, USA
November 25, 2007
Size: ~30mm
Rescued this rather lethargic mole cricket as I was walking down the side of a road. It was fairly cool and it wasn't scuttling across the road fast enough, so I scooped it up and carried it across.

I was rewarded with an opportunity to shoot about two dozen images and then we departed.

This looks like Genus Neocurtilla, but would like an opinion from someone more knowledgeable.

Thanks,

Scott

Neocurtilla hexadactyla
Yes, it is a Neocurtilla, and I think it should be species Neocurtilla hexadactyla in your area, compare images such as:

Thank you!
I believe this is the first one of these crickets that I have sen. I will add these pics to the guide with your fine images :^).

Scott

awesome photos!
iv never seen such great detailed photos of a mole cricket!
having never actually seen one in person, these photos are great!=)

Thanks!
This cricket looks like a monster when I enlarge the images to 100%. At that size it looks like it would give my roto-tiller some competition :^)
