Monarch Butterfly - Danaus plexippus - male

Monarch Butterfly - Danaus plexippus - Male
Near Ann Arbor, Washtenaw County, Michigan, USA
September 23, 2006
Taken at Great Lakes Roses near Ann Arbor, Michigan. I saw that no dates show for Michigan Monarchs and wanted to fix that.

Nice shot -
and a male - you can just see the smudge of its scent gland on the third vein from the left, hind wing.

Thanks So Much Hannah
I will update to male. I learn something everyday here. Any other clues to sexing butterflies?

An article
For whatever it is worth my tips on sexing insects.

Sexing Article
Beatriz, it's worth a lot and I already had it on my favorites, Thanks. I saw moths but not butterflies. I think because different types of butterflies have different identifiers of gender.

Great article!
I hadn't seen it.
