Lethocerus sp? A formidable thing to find in our little pond. Scooped it out just long enough to take a pic.

Looks to be a "giant water BUG", family Belostomatidae, a true bug (order: hemiptera), they can swim, fly and bite! AKA "Toe-Biters"!

As slow as I type, it is still faster than my thinking. What makes it even dumber is that I had to go to Hemiptera in the book to find the bug. Thanks.
