Cottonwood Aphid - Chaitophorus

Cottonwood Aphid - Chaitophorus
Rye/Odiorne Point State Park, Rockingham County, New Hampshire, USA
September 15, 2018
I'm fairly confident these are Cloudy-winged Cottonwood Aphids, Chaitophorus populicaola, being tended by New York Carpenter Ants, Camponotus novaeboracensis, but would like confirmation.

Do you know what species?
I agree these are Chaitophorus but there are 20 species in North America, and they all feed on Cottonwoods. Species might help narrow it down.

From what I've seen, the apterous specimens can be fairly variable in coloration and not easy to ID with images.

Generally aphids are identified with a slide-mounted specimen, so you can see the characters that would need to be used to identify this genus here:

Poplar species.
I'm checking with a Botanist, but my best guess at this point is P. tremuloides. P. deltoides seems to be the only other contender.
