Tibicen texanus
Kathy Hill identified this one for us. It seems appropriately named.

For more information, contact me at hamiltona AT agr.gc.ca

Moved to Tibicen
BG doesn't have a page for texana, and Checklist of Cicadas North of Mexico (http://buzz.ifas.ufl.edu/c700list.htm) doesn't list the species. It is mentioned at http://www.cicadamania.com/cicadas/2006/08/.

checklist
Tibicen texanus is a replacement name for a junior homonym (mentioned on the checklist).

This is a rather little Tibicen compared to other western species, about the size of T. canicularis, but with a much shorter and wider head.
