Check Alexander 1943
Try Alexander's 1943 paper on the insects of Connecticut (reference Alexander 1943k or 1966g on ccw.nautralis.nl).

About M. pubipennis: "Knobs of halteres weakly darkened (male) or clear yellow (female). ... The female is well-distinguished by the golden-yellow costal trichia but the males have not yet been satisfactorily separated. ... It is doubtful that the male associated with this species belongs here. See note under M. hirtipennis."

About M. hirtipennis: "Rogers (1942) believes that this species as well as M. pubipennis O. S. and M. soror Alex. are chiefly or entirely parthenogenetic."

re: Alexander 1943
I'd call this reference Alexander et al, The Diptera or True Flies of CT, Part VI, First Fascicle (1942), pp. 479, 483 (I've got a 24 mg PDF).

If Rogers is correct and all 3 sp. are parthenogenetic, then there are no males, correct? Then perhaps this sp. is undescribed.

Alexander (1942) also has drawings of male genitalia of Molophilus, but I couldn't make sense of them. Am adding photo of same.
