Julia - Dryas iulia - female

Julia - Dryas iulia - Female
Boca Raton, Palm Beach County, Florida, USA
December 2, 2007
This lady was very docile so I thought that she was a freshly emerged girl until I noticed the scratches and small chips on the wings. She casually flew around feeding on Bidens alba, Cordia globosa and Croton blooms while frequently basking.

Very pretty, in a subtle way
I've seen and shot the bright ones in a butterfly house in DC, accompanied by granddaughter Julia. We both really like these insects!

Hey Ron:
These are pretty cool in an understated sort of way! The Central American sub is flashier having a brighter orange! :-) This guy has been in my yard all day - still is actually!
