Newburyport/Joppa Flats Education Center, Essex County, Massachusetts, USA
September 20, 2018
Size: about 1 cm
Found this beautiful specimen hanging out on a split rail fence. only occasionally moving. Not sure what it was doing there. Cuckoo Wasp, Carpenter Bee, and Sweat Bee all came to mind. Blunt abdomen hinted at bee, but long antenna hinted at wasp, so I wasn't sure where to start looking. I left a little more of the substrate in view to show where it was.
