Gall Wasp - Ceroptres

Gall Wasp - Ceroptres
Springfield, Fairfax County, Virginia, USA
April 28, 2005
Size: ~2mm
I believe this is a small black gall wasp (fam. Cynipidae, subfam. Cynipinae). The wasp was photographed while it was scurrying around the underside of a leaf of a cherry tree, and it eventually flew off. The overall shape, round shiny abdomen, and rough textured thorax help identify it as Cynipinae.

Moved from Gall Wasps.
"An inquiline, seeming to be Ceroptres sp." according to Dr. Zhiwei Liu.

happy to see all those getting figured out
thanks much Charley and Dr Liu
