Hi Melissa
It's just a best guess on my part from looking at Kaufman's Guide. Notice the underwing view pattern. I thnk it's a female Northern White Skipper. There appears to be quite a bit more white on the mid part of the upper wing than I see on the Checkered Skipper.

Yes
White skipper. The only species you have. And you have a group of Checker skips but they all have a different upper pattern than this.

Its hard
Sometimes its hard, I tend to look at the wings on the inside. The markings tend to be better on the insides.
