Pterodontia vix - male

Pterodontia vix - Male
Sugarloaf, Tulare County, California, USA
Size: 6 mm
Its very similar to Pterodontia misella, but smaller and narrower in shape. The key characters can only be seen under a scope. This species is found in the chaparral of the Sierra Nevada, while P. misella is seen in the yellow pine forest biome. The only specimen I have seen in flight was moving slowly through annual grasses in openings between shrubs.
