Apion rostrum on Baptisia alba pod - Trichapion

Apion rostrum on Baptisia alba pod - Trichapion
Read's Landing, Wabasha County, Minnesota, USA
September 6, 2012
Size: <5mm
Tallgrass prairie, huge numbers are present in the pods of Baptisia alba on our land every year. The plant is perennial and enough seeds survive each year that it is not harmed. I personally think scarification and germination might be carried out by the weevil and also by periodic fires.
