Wasp or mimic? - Pygodasis ephippium - female

Wasp or mimic? - Pygodasis ephippium - Female
Montell, Uvalde County, Texas, USA
August 11, 2018
large flying insect - I thought at first it might be a great golden digger wasp, but it seems different. Bigger than the only one I have seen, also hairier, with a more squared end on the abdomen. The plant is Salvia ballotiflora (aka mejorana or shrubby blue sage). It looks similar to the wasp mimic moths that I could find but not an exact match to any of them. I'm a terrible judge of size, but my guess is about 2 inches in length.
