Male Diadem Spider Cautiously Approaches a Female - Araneus diadematus - male - female

Male Diadem Spider Cautiously Approaches a Female - Araneus diadematus - Male Female
Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon, USA
September 14, 2018
I encountered this pair mating, but the male dropped away quickly. After many false starts where he approached the female, only to repeatedly drop away, he mated again. (Apologies for the image quality; the photos were taken with a point and shoot.)

Located on the west slope of Cornell Mountain (elevation = 740 feet).
