crab spider eats fly. - Mecaphesa
Seymour, Sevier County, Tennessee, USA
September 20, 2007
I came across this very small spider eating a fly and this was the best shot i got. Spider and fly were so small it was hard to get a really clear shot. I would like an id on the genus and possibly species of the spider, and the fly if possible.

Picture
Can you lighten up the picture to bring out more detail?

i would like to...
but im not sure how to do it.

Not an ID
I ran it through photoshop to see what I could see. DON'T BET MONEY ON THIS ID! For amusement purposes only.
spider fly

Please don't move to the guide based on this ID, as I'm making a few guesses here. (Although I think I'm close)

Thanks!
It helps a lot though to know that the fly is a syrphid, and the spider is most likely one of the flower spiders.

the spider is a crab
spider in the family Thomisidae and the fly is a 'hover fly' in the family Syrphidae. I believe someone with more experience can ID them both to at least genus

Misumenops celer
I'd go with Misumenops for now.

thanks!
Thanks for the info!
