Cerophytum convexicolle - male

Cerophytum convexicolle - Male
Ash Mountain, elev. 2,800', Tulare County, California, USA
April 7, 1984
Size: 5-6 mm
How about this one? Its another little one from the chapparal of central California. The antennae are pectinate. I don't think that it is Melasis either.

Moved
Moved from Cerophytum.

Good grief!
You certainly have added a bunch of cool stuff the last couple of days! Two new families and now a family only represented by a single specimen on Bugguide. Not to mention my favorites, the Buprestids. Please keep it up, it's quite a fun surprise to see what you come up with next! I wish I could help with ID's, but these are WAY beyond anything I'm familiar with, I've never even heard of half these families other than by common name.

not to me
looks more like this

Cerophytidae
Its so easy when you know what you're looking for! The trochanter is as long as the femur, and the connection for the two is rather strange looking. I have 15 males and 3 females. I'll have to try and get a picture of the female and maybe try for the trochanter. There used to be only two species (one western and one eastern), now there are three. The western species was Cerophytum convexicolle.

three?
Did you get three from Nomina? I believe Cerophytum fuscicorne is listed in error. I think there are only two here - yours would be convexicolle, pulsator is already in the guide.

Yes, that's where I saw three
Yes, that's where I saw three. It does conform well to C. convexicolle.
