Zanclognatha bryanti - Zanclognatha jacchusalis

Zanclognatha bryanti - Zanclognatha jacchusalis
Port Alberni, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada
August 2, 2007
Tentative ID Z. jacchusalis. Also considered Z. ochreipennis, but doesn't have the checkered fringe to the wings which appears to be characteristic of Z. ochreipennis

Moved

Z. bryanti
Moved from Zanclognatha to new species page. This is probably the only Zanclognatha species to be expected on the island or anywhere in western BC. See species page for more info...

This individual is very worn; its fringe scales are completely gone, and the outer margin of the forewing has worn down even past the terminal line, giving a sharp and "hard-edged" appearance to the wing. By contrast, note how long and "soft-edged" (frilly) the fringe scales are in the fresh specimen shot by John Davis.
