Based on the entire submarginal stria, surface sculpture, and habitat, this should the recently described C. wenzeli Reese & Swanson. The only way to tell the new species from opuntiae for sure is that the apices of the parameres (the tiny tips sticking out of the genitalia in 3/4 view) are deflexed and pointed in the n. sp. rather than rounded as in opuntiae. The genitalic view is not quite enough to tell for sure, but looks like the new sp. Supposedly in Arizona, essentially all specimens from agave and sotol are the new species, those from cactus are very probably opuntiae; however, I collected from dead saguaro in central Arizona a large series of yet a third species in the subgenus Carcinopsida (have micropunctures arranged in small close groupings) that is either one of Casey's names currently in synonymy with opuntiae, or a new species.
