Atopsyche species
nice pics - I cannot be sure of species without examining private parts in detail.

Thank you Dave!
I released it as soon as I was done with the photos. Otherwise, I would have produced shots of its private parts. Thanks.

private parts
Most caddis need to be preserved and then processed in order to see the necessary private parts for species determinations.

A new genus for the Guide....
...and--if I'm reading my taxonomy correctly--a new tribe, subfamily, family, superfamily and suborder!

Can you confirm that these are, respectively, Hydrobiosini, Hydrobiosinae, Hydrobiosidae, Rhyacophiloidea and Spicipalpia?

that is pretty close
I don't work with higher phylogeny like "Spicipalia" so cannot help you with that, but Rhyacophiloidea must be in BG (Rhyacophila, Glossosoma, etc.) I am sure there are still lots of things to add to BG. The SW US has lots of neat critters.

Ah, you're right...
Rhyacophiloidea was indeed in the Guide, under a different suborder. I've created family and genus pages, without messing with the higher taxonomy.

Thanks!
